ORLANDO, Fla. – Monday night was the Fab Fringe where the Orlando Fringe organization unveiled the festival poster and revealed the theme for the 2017 Orlando International Fringe festival.
The 2017 Fab Fringe was the first one to be held without the presence of George Wallace, the former executive producer. The fundraiser features Carrie Manolakos, an accomplished Broadway actress.
Brian Sikorski, the Orlando Fringe Marketing Coordinator, said that Lure Design which is the organization’s marketing and creative design partner worked with Think Creative to come up with the year’s concept that will appeal to Fringe fanatics as well as to the people who are not much of a Fringe fan.
Siroski also added that while they declared that ‘Anyone Can Fringe’ in the past year, there are still people and communities who haven’t experienced what this annual festival celebrated in a lot of parts of the world can offer. ‘Stay Curious’ is this year’s theme and it aims to celebrate quality that plays a huge role in Fringe and for anyone who creates and consumes any art form.
Michael Marinaccio, the Fringe festival producer, said that ‘curious’ as a word is the Fringe in a nutshell. He shared that it pushes people to know more and be curious about what Fringe is. It also creates a call to action that might encourage people to check out the event.
“If You Don’t Go, You’ll Never Know” is the Fringe festival tagline that will be prominently featured in all of the promotional materials until the annual Fringe festival. The annual festival will be held from May 16 until May 29.
The Orlando Fringe International Theatre Festival is the United States’ longest running Fringe that is produced by the Orlando Fringe. It is also a member of the CAFF or the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals, the World Fringe Network, and the United States Association of Fringe Festivals or USAFF.
The Orlando Fringe Theatre Festival is 100 percent non-curated and unjuried, 100 percent inclusive, and 100 percent accessible for all artists and audiences. The participants of the annual festival are randomly chosen through a fair lottery. Twenty-five percent of the participant count is reserved for international companies, another 25 percent for national companies, and the remaining 50 percent is reserved for the locals of Florida.
The festival’s lottery was held last December 5. All the application fees and production fees are non-refundable and 100 percent of the Orlando Fringe ticket sales will be returned to the artists. Last year’s average return was more than 3200 dollars.
