ORLANDO, Fla. – The Chattahoochee Gold swim club of Woodstock has finished its busy spring season after completing the NCSA Spring Championships last weekend in Orlando, Florida.
Chattahoochee Gold has sent 22 swimmers to the team for the national meet the previous weekend in South Carolina. Mark Schilling, the Chattahoochee Gold swimming team coach, said that he was very happy with the team’s accomplishment. They were able to finish at 16th place out of 84 boys’ team with a total of 156 points.
Schilling was proud to say that they have a great group of boys who gave their best performances. He also said that it was hard to keep getting the best times throughout the year and it is a bigger deal to get the best time at the end of the season.
With 82 points, Jack Dalmolin led the way for the members of the team. Dalmolin finished in 4th place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1 minute and 58.14 seconds. He was also in 8th place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 55.23 seconds and finished 10th in 200 IM with a time of 1 minute and 49.48 seconds.
Other Chattahoochee Gold swimmers were Mihalis Deliyannis in 8th in 50 freestyle with a time of 20.74 seconds and Jordan Dunn who finished at top 23 for the same category. Three relays for the team also finished on the top 20 list.
Schilling said that their performance at the meet was promising even though they didn’t send enough swimmers to have a shot at the swim title. He added that they would have wanted to send as many kids to the Orlando meet but they also understand that it can be tough to miss school.
With their 2nd place finish among the 38 participating teams in South Carolina and with their competitive performance for the Orlando meet, the success of the team for this season can push them into next year, according to Schilling. He also said that they have gotten good enough that they are not just for state level now but can also do well for the sectionals and the national level.
The coach said that the team will be taking a step back to refocus on all the fundamentals of swimming so they can build their skill back during the entire summer. The team will not swim in any major meet again until the month of July or August.
