Future and Technological Breakthrough of Window Film

April 5, 2017     Window Film

Window tinting has evolved much since it was created and is continually growing. As of today, some technological advancements have been applied already. Yet, the future of home window tinting film is boundless and there are a lot of technologies that support this.

Here are some of the proposed, but not yet released advancements in technology that could definitely cause a breakthrough in home window tinting film:

Smart Glass

The smart glass is best called as electrochromic technology. This is the most anticipated glass technology present today. The smart glass works by allowing the glass to change its color from a clear one to 100% opaque. This is achievable with electric current combined with the use of electrochromic, a suspended particle and liquid crystal technology.

Smart glass is also known to be switchable glass. It means you can operate it manually for primary control or can be used for the management system of your place. This makes it popular because it maintains comfort and privacy.

Photochromic

This technology allows or makes glass dark when it is exposed to the sunlight. It is usually used in auto-dimming glasses or what we call transition lenses.

An advantage of having a home window tinting film with this technology is that it automatically adjusts the tint depending on the intensity of the sun. This technology is not yet perfect. However, according to studies, photochromatic materials prove that it is immune to temperature changes. If it is cold yet sunny, the windows would respond to it, causing it to darken while making the room colder.

However, this is still in the process of being perfected. This is due to its reduction in energy efficiency. As the room gets colder, it results to using heat energy in one’s room.

Daylighting

A good source of energy saving is daylighting. It uses the natural sunlight touching the glass and redirects it to pass through a house or building.

Daylighting takes advantage of natural light, thus, making homeowners have reduced lighting, cooling and heating costs.

Photovoltaic (PV)

This technology converts light into electricity. With this technology, glass can be turned into solar panels. This is very useful in providing power to your residence, especially when there is a power outage.

Just imagine how much power you can save if all your windows can store solar energy. This would lessen the cost of one’s electric bill. This technology is a good source of energy.

As the demand for glass industry increases, so will the need for advanced window film solutions. The industry for home window tinting film will surely be improved in the coming years with the integration of these technologies.
