ORLANDO, Fla. – An investigation regarding a dead body that was found on Sunday on the coast of Lake Florence is in progress.
Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office of the Orange County said that the case is more likely a homicide incident.
Teenagers residing around the area were the ones who saw the body. Capt. Angelo Nieves from the Sherrif’s Office said that the teens were lounging by the shore close to Willowwood Street and Good Homes Road at around 9 a.m. when they noticed the body a few meters away.
They thought that the man was just sleeping so they didn’t put much attention to it, the deputies stated.
According to Capt. Nieves, the teenagers passed by the lake several hours later and noticed that the man was still on the same spot. The teens then rushed to their homes and informed their parents about the impassive body. Their parents were the ones who reported the situation to 911.
Rescuers from the Orange County Fire said that the man was not breathing and was unresponsive, so they declared him dead. The dead body was spotted by the officials at the lake across Ocoee.
The man is not yet personally identified by the officials but they believe that he is about 25 to 35 years of age.
Capt. Nieves stated that the investigation leaning closely towards homicide as the cause of death is undoubtedly a suspicious occurrence. He indicated that the dead body was not there for a long time until it was discovered. However, it is still uncertain if the body was flung in the area where it was found or if the slaying occurred there.
Officials did not announce the possible method of death. However, they released a statement that they will be searching the area for evidence. They will also go door-to-door around the neighborhood to ask people if they saw or heard anything suspicious over the night or earlier in the day.
