ORLANDO, Fla. – On Thursday, a dozen people rallied against the American Health Care Act in front of the Orlando Office of Senator Marco Rubio.
This is in the midst of the House’s voting session on the said act that will replace the Heath Care of the previous administration, Obamacare – also known as the Affordable Care Act.
One of the protesters in the group, Kirk Root, has cerebral palsy. Without medical coverage, he said that he won’t be able to pay for his medicinal and hospital needs. The current act provides him the budget he needs for his epilepsy drug, wheelchair, and other products that help him live.
The noise of the protesters revolved around their call to the Congress to halt the Grand Old Party’s health care plan, American Health Care Act.
They said that instead of pushing through, more people should be consulted first regarding their opinion on how to improve the current health care, Obamacare.
Tiffany Namey, Orange County Democratic Disability Caucus President, was present during the rally.
A number of people in the rally said that they are speaking out against the proposed plan regarding Planned Parenthood. Budget intended for this field will be cut off, resulting to several procedures not being funded at all. Abortion is not an option on the proposed plan, and all possible federal money to fund the surgical process will be removed.
This move will let 15% of Americans continuously endure a life without health care needs. Also, it is expected that the number of births will increase promptly.
The House members of Central Florida are divided on the legislation of the American Health Care Act. Dennis Ross and Bill Posey, both part of the Republican Party, have different views. The former is a major supporter, while the latter sticks to his “no”. Another member of the Grand Old Party, Dan Wester, is looking into the details and has no final say about it yet. All democrats are still against it.
