ORLANDO, Fla. – Roads leading to Central Florida are starting to fill up with traffic and people are told to plan before getting into their cars and be stuck on the road in the middle of spring break.

Steve Montiero, a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper and a community safety officer, said that this road to Central Florida is kind of a corridor for countless of universities. There is a university up north, several on the south part, and the area itself is the home of the University of Central Florida which is the second largest university in the country.

Montiero also said that having the Walt Disney World, Universal, and a lot of resorts doesn’t help in the matter of road traffic either. A lot of the college students are coming into town and there are also individuals and families who are visiting the area and looking to having a good time during the spring break. The already busy roads are becoming busier.

All of the universities within and nearby the area, the various famous landmarks, and resorts, and being in the middle of spring break, all these factors play a role in the increase in the volume of the already crowded roads.

A million visitors come to Central Florida on a daily basis which for most people is not a lot of tourists but Montiero said that it can be crazy when you add the total population and the visitors in the area.

Florida has, for a long time, been a hot spot for spring break and it still remains on top this year. Based on the Project Know rankings, four cities in Florida are among the top 10 most famous spring break cities. This ranking is based on Instagram posts. The cities include Miami Beach, Panama City, Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale.

Spring break can be a good reminder of the dangers of getting inside a car if you are not prepared and aware. Montiero said that driving might be the most dangerous thing a person can do in his entire life but it is not something everyone can realize since it has become a daily routine.

He said that if everyone can take even a few extra minutes to plan ahead, it can prevent accidents and unnecessary problems, especially on quite a busy road.

Montiero said to think about where you want to go before getting inside the car. He added that planning the driving routes beforehand can really be ideal especially with the heavier traffic now.
