ORLANDO, Fla. – A group of three teenagers were arrested after they hit a police officer with a sports utility vehicle then escaped through the woods.
Officials said that the incident happened in Woodland Lakes Preserve Subdivision in Orlando at around 6:50 p.m. on Wednesday. The police officer, Lt. Craig Hall, was on off-duty work around the neighborhood along the crossing of Curry Ford Road and Arbor View Drive.
Police officer Hall stated that he noticed a black sports utility vehicle driving around the block. He monitored the action of the vehicle and observed that the SUV was stopping at different homes.
He narrated that he approached the vehicle to make sure that nothing is wrong. He knocked on the passenger side window of the SUV and asked for the driver’s license of the man behind the wheel.
As the police officer was interrogating the driver of the SUV through the open passenger door, two of the three suspects walked towards the car.
When the officer demanded to see the driver’s license one more time, the driver stepped on the gas and accelerated in reverse, picked the other two suspects, then drove away.
The open passenger door hit Officer Hall and caused him to fall. Hall said that he was not severely injured.
On-duty deputies chased the speeding SUV for a few minutes. The suspects then jumped out of the car and dashed into the landfill and the corner of Young Pine Road.
The officers stated that they immediately conducted a hunt operation in the area. After a few hours, the three individuals were spotted near an intersection through helicopter search.
The three individuals matched the description of the teens as described by Officer Hall. The three teenagers were brought in for questioning.
They gathered hints of information from the third teen that would connect them to the incident, an official said.
The group is composed of one 16-year old and two 17-year old boys. Their names were not disclosed.
