ORLANDO, Fla. – One of the employees in a Wendy’s restaurant was fired after a racially offensive word was found on a receipt seen by a trooper of the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Highway Patrol trooper told News 6 what happened while he was in line to get his dinner at a Wendy’s restaurant last Tuesday night. This was in a Wendy’s restaurant branch located at the corner of the University Boulevard and the Rouse Road. The patrol trooper said that he saw the old racist receipt just beside the cash register when he was about to order dinner.

The racist receipt was supposed to be for someone else. The trooper said that this is the thing you can often hear being said to someone else, but you would never think it’s going to be said to you.

On the space on the receipt where the name of the customer should be written, there was a racially offensive word instead.

The trooper was still on duty at that time and he said that what he thought upon seeing that racist receipt is his children. He said that if his kids were there eating dinner and they happen to see what was written on the receipt, his 6-year-old who is now learning to read would ask what that word on the receipt means.

He also said, recounting the event, that he was quite surprised since the cashier was pleasant when he placed his order. He was shocked about how nicely the employee treated him while the racist receipt is right there, probably sitting there for quite some time. The trooper also said that the Wendy’s employee even thanked him after.

The patrol trooper took a picture of the receipt and sent it to the TV station. It was the station who reached out and informed Wendy’s corporate office about the incident but they said that they didn’t know about the receipt.

A Wendy’s spokeswoman said that they already launched an investigation into the incident. They are working with the franchise owner to look into the surveillance video as well as the cash register video.

The franchise owner of the certain Wendy’s restaurant issued a statement. It said that although the racist comment was not directed at anyone, they found the language to be offensive which they take seriously. They also said that it was a terrible judgment made by one of their employees which is completely unacceptable. This is the reason why they no longer employ the certain employee.
